Word of the Week: Buri

Buri / boo-ree / #mullet

If you’ve seen Israeli Chef Uri Buri, you probably recall his beard. But what is Chef Uri Jeremias, fondly known as Uri Buri, famous for? Well, his nickname Buri is a giveaway – meaning mullet (as in fish, not hairstyle) in Hebrew.

Uri runs one of Israel’s most famous seafood restaurants. Located at a simple unpretentious Ottoman building near ancient Akko’s beach line, it was recently voted ‘Best Restaurant In The Middle East’ as part of the 2016 TripAdvisor Travelers’ Choice Awards. See what the Washington Post has to say about mullet maven Uri Buri here.

Come meet this Israeli master chef while he’s visiting Boston this month! On December 6th, you can join the Consulate General of Israel to New England, NE-CAT, and JArts at the 1st Boston City Hall Plaza Winter Market (running through December) where Uri will be sampling his creations along with an Israeli wine tasting by Legal Seafood’s master sommelier Sandy Block. The event is free, but reservations are encouraged.
