Word of the Week: Matok

Matok / Matoke / #sweetheart / #sweetie / #metukah

Matok means sweet in Hebrew. When you say “Shanah tovah u’metukah” on Rosh Hashanah, you are literally saying “good and sweet year.” Want to say “sweetie” like you’re Israeli? Try “motek,” a variation of the same root.

Here’s a video of the Fountainheads singing “Dip Your Apple,” listen carefully to hear matok!

Make your New Year extra matok with a hand-made honey dish! Join JArts at the Potters Shop & School on Sept 19th to make your own clay honey pot for your holiday celebration. Info & tickets here.
